Diagrams

We generally split diagrams into two main types:

  • Standard diagrams (these use a spread sheet logic to define that data that will be presented in them).
  • Dynamic diagrams (these are based on axis set parameters and are interactive; i.e. the users can specify that certain variables should differ on each instance of a chart generated using them).

Standard diagrams are typically used in reports, where they insert charts and tables into the final report. Such reports are normally printed out to PowerPoint or PDF and the diagrams therein need thus not be interactive. If a standard diagram is added to a monitor, it will although become interactive since a filter control will be offered that filter the data cache on which the diagram is built.

Dynamic diagrams are diagrams that utilize a data cache and it's axis set to provide end users an easy way to do their own data analysis. Dynamic diagrams generally consist of some administrator configured access to filter controls combined with a style sheet specifying how the diagram will look. Catglobe offers a number of different types of diagrams that work in quite different ways, so it is necessary to both explain some of the features that are common for these types of diagrams and those that are unique.

Dynamic diagrams are typically used for monitor sites.

Both standard and dynamic diagrams can be found in the Diagram resource list.
