When we talk about most popular products it is really not all that simple. The most popular product is not necessarily the product of which we have sold the most – the reason for this may well be that it has been the product that has been sold in our shop for the longest duration. On the other hand we can also not allow ourselves to merely choose the products that have sold most over its existence in the shop, since a product that has been introduced on the same day and sold 1 piece on the same day may get the highest rating of all but not really be a “high-selling” item in the long run.

Most popular products

In order for you to see what other shoppers have bought in the shop we offer an overview of the most popular products.

Most popular products

As can be seen from the above example we list the 12 most bought products. Each product has a small number in red next to it, indicating what its position in this popularity overview is.

We have therefore choosen a system which takes all these elements into account and sets its “popularity” based on that. The popularity index which is based on the following rules:

Popularity Index = [No. of items sold of the product] / [Number of days in shop]

Popularity Index = 0 if [Number of days in shop] < 5

Popularity Index = 0 if [Number of items sold] < 5

Number of days in shop = Today’s date – Date that the first product was sold.

No. of items sold of the product = Number of ordered items of all product options of product
