Open and closed questions
Generally we split the questions into three types. Closed questions, open questions, and numeric questions.
Closed questions are questions where we have a specific number of possible outcomes. These outcomes are set up as answer options. A typical closed question would be 'Are you male of female?'.
Open questions are questions where employees can freely answer anything they like. Typically we use open questions to collect answers to questions where there are too many possible answers to list or we do not want to influence the persons answers by giving him a set number of outcomes. A typical open question would be 'What is your favorite food?'.
Numeric questions are questions where user can answer with a number or position identifying a number (for scale questions).
We in fact have a two more kinds, which we call half closed or half open questions. Examples of both are shown below.
